Replace
your old furnace with a new ENERGY STAR qualified high-efficiency furnace.
Replacing your old furnace with a new ENERGY STAR qualified high-efficiency
furnace will reduce your energy consumption, which will lead to lower gas
bills, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and a more energy efficient home.
How it works:
Contact your local furnace contractor/installer to get your old furnace
replaced with a new ENERGY STAR qualified high-efficiency furnace.
Why Upgrade?
With increasing energy costs, there has never been a better time to replace
that old inefficient furnace with a new ENERGY STAR qualified
high-efficiency furnace.
If your home’s furnace is more than 15 years old, it is most likely a
standard-efficiency furnace, which only has an AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization
Efficiency) of about 60 per cent. This means that for every dollar you spend
on heating, your furnace only uses 60 cents for heating your home. The rest
of your money is just being blown out the chimney.
An ENERGY STAR qualified high-efficiency furnace has an AFUE of at least 90
per cent which gives you more bang for your buck. This means you can keep
heating your home just as you always have, but your monthly heating costs
will be lower. On average, a Manitoban that upgrades from a
standard-efficiency furnace to an ENERGY STAR qualified high-efficiency
furnace will save about $450 annually on heating costs.
ENERGY STAR qualified high-efficiency furnaces also help our environment as
they reduce the amount of natural gas you consume, which reduces the
greenhouse gas emissions from your home and creates a more environmentally
friendly place to live.
Why ENERGY STAR?
The international ENERGY STAR symbol is a simple way for consumers to
identify products that are among the most energy-efficient on the market.
Only manufacturers and retailers whose products meet the ENERGY STAR
criteria can label their products with this symbol. For more
information and to get a list of ENERGY STAR qualified
furnaces, visit the ENERGY STAR Web site.
Program Overview
This Program is designed to promote the
purchase of high efficiency natural gas home heating systems and/or water
heaters. To this end, the Program provides rebates towards the purchase of
qualifying high-efficiency natural gas equipment
